Gabriel was born and raised in Los Angeles, a city he would later devote most of his professional career to. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Loyola Marymount University in 1985. Then, he attended the UCLA School of Medicine, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in 1989.
From 1989 to 1995, he completed his Internship and Residency in General Surgery at King-Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles. He then did a Trauma/Critical Care Fellowship at UCLA in 1996 and a vascular surgery fellowship at UCLA in 1997.
In 2008, he completed his formal training with a Mini Fellowship in Endovascular Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, which is affiliated with Columbia and Cornell.

In recent years, Dr. Carabello has worked at hospitals such as Yuma Regional Medical Center in Arizona and HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital. He previously held long-term positions at several clinics and surgical offices in Los Angeles, including practices on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, West Temple Street, and South Alvarado.
His surgical privileges have included White Memorial Medical Center, East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital, and Monterey Park Hospital, among others. He has consistently demonstrated high commitment to each role, with a particular emphasis on vascular access for end-stage renal disease and endovascular work.

From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Carabello was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. This position allowed him to train future surgeons while continuing his education.
He is licensed to practice in multiple states, including California, Arizona, Florida, and New York. Dr. Carabello also holds several certifications from the American Board of Surgery, including those in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery, many of which he has maintained through continuous recertification.
He is also certified in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support and moderate sedation. His ability to speak English and Spanish has enabled him to reach a wide range of patients and provide them with practical help.

From the beginning of his career, Dr. Carabello has been recognized by his peers and staff. The most notable of these recognitions was when King-Drew Medical Center awarded him the Surgical Nursing Staff Resident of the Year award.
He also received the Outstanding Resident awards at California Hospital Medical Center in 1991 (his intern year) and 1995. These awards highlight his excellence as a surgeon and the fact that his coworkers actually like him.
